Nobi Smart Lights Secures
€35 Million in Oversubscribed Series B Funding

Trend: rising demand for AI in tackling global aging challenges

Antwerp, January 28, 2025 – Amid the increasing demand for AI-driven solutions to tackle global aging challenges, the European AgeTech company ‘Nobi’ announces the successful close of its oversubscribed €35 million Series B funding. This milestone comes just weeks after the announcement of Nobi’s groundbreaking partnership with Frontier Management, one of the largest senior care providers in the US, highlighting the growing trust in Nobi’s innovative AI-lights for fall prevention & smart care.

Investors With a Mission

In its ambition to scale further and create a global impact, Nobi has secured exceptional new partner-investors. They will support Nobi in strengthening market leadership and enhance the platform with new features to improve care home workflows. Nobi’s investment round was co-led by Angelini Ventures and Nexus NeuroTech Ventures, with support from Japanese investor 15th Rock. Existing investors, including EQT Health Economics and EQT Dementia Fund -two fund strategies of EQT Life Sciences-, Belgian investment company PMV, and Nobi’s founders Roeland Pelgrims and Bert De Haes, also participated. Co-founding business angel Balz Halter as well reaffirmed his commitment by contributing to the Series B round.

Global Challenges Meet Global Collaboration: Japan, Europe, and the US Unite

Together, Nobi’s investor base spans continents—from Asia over Europe to the US, this global reach underscores a shared belief in Nobi’s potential to transform senior care.

“This funding milestone is yet another proof of the overwhelming need for AgeTech solutions that combine gold standard technology with award winning design.” said Roeland Pelgrims, CEO and Co-founder of Nobi. “Having such a diverse group of world-class investors and an all-star board reaffirms the global potential of our mission.”

Transforming AI-lights

Society is aging fast. By 2030, one in five Americans[1] and Europeans[2] will be over the age of 65, while in the UK, this figure will rise to one in four by 2040. In Japan—home to the world’s oldest population—one in three people is already over 65[3]. These shifts strain healthcare systems worldwide, creating urgent demand for innovative solutions. Nobi’s mission is to help older adults live happily, independently, and with dignity. From enabling seniors to stay at home longer to supporting them in professional care environments, Nobi serves as a guardian angel for seniors and a partner for caregivers. Nobi looks like a simple light almost invisibly hanging in the middle of the room. But underneath the lampshade, there’s a life-saving AI universe that works in real-time, processing data locally to ensure better privacy and reliability. The AI model was trained for 6 years by the world’s best AI experts on more than 250,000 real-life situations with only 1 ambition: making impact in the lives of elderly people and their caregivers.

Speed Saves Lives

Rapid intervention after a fall is critical, as long-lie periods—when individuals remain on the floor for over an hour—significantly increase the risk of complications or death. Studies show that waiting over an hour raises the likelihood of mortality within six months to 50%. A recent analysis[1] highlights Nobi’s impact. The smart lights enable caregivers to respond 94% faster: reducing waiting times from 1 hour and 8 minutes to just 4 minutes. Before Nobi, 44% of falls involved long-lie periods over an hour. With Nobi, these incidents were eliminated, ensuring residents receive timely care and relieving caregivers of the stress of finding residents waiting for hours.

Prevent 4 Out of 5 Falls

The analysis revealed that Nobi reduces falls by 51% immediately after installation. At Hartland House, a UK care home, Nobi even reduces falls by 84% following the activation of additional prevention measures in a second phase. Preventing 4 out of 5 falls led the regional government to adopt Nobi in 50 additional care homes across Lancashire & South-Cumbria.
