Klagenfurt, 2 November 2022. Nobi, a provider of innovative technologies for elderly care, will present its innovative age-tech solution for fall detection and prevention at Medica from 14 to 17 November 2022 in Düsseldorf. For the Age-Tech company, Medica 2022 is concurrently the starting point for availability throughout German-speaking Europe. After Switzerland, the smart lamp will now also be available in Germany and Austria. Vera Led takes over responsibility for the region as Head of DACH at Nobi. She comes from UNiQUARE, an IT company specialising in the financial industry, where she most recently served as CEO.
Demographic developments pose a major challenge for healthcare systems, especially in Germany, where there is already an acute shortage of healthcare professionals. One-fifth of the European population is already over 65, and this will reach one-quarter by 2040. Solutions that provide effective assistance for the elderly and caregivers are imperative.
Falls among the elderly often have dramatic consequences
How important this is can be seen in the dramatic consequences of falls: one in three people over 65 falls at least once a year, and 66% of these falls end in serious injury. The time until help arrives is crucial or even life-saving because falls are the most significant cause of fatal injuries: 50% of older people who are on the ground for more than an hour die within six months after the fall. Quick help after a fall saves lives and extends a valuable lifeline.
Innovative fall detection technology
This is precisely where Nobi's innovative technology comes in. The smart lamp immediately detects when a resident falls and independently asks what the condition is. In case of an emergency, it automatically informs caregivers or relatives. The ambulance service is notified as and where necessary, and Nobi can open the door for them if integrated accordingly.
"The lamp not only monitors the well-being of older adults but also enables immediate communication between residents and their relatives or caregivers. This creates a reassuring feeling for everyone involved," says Roeland Pelgrims, co-founder and CEO of Nobi. Furthermore, the monitoring relieves the burden on caregivers, as they can now invest time for check-ups in personal care.
Effective fall prevention
Nobi provides support in the event of a fall and active help to prevent falls in the first place. That is why Nobi lights up with a soft light when a resident sits up in bed at night. When the person stands up, for example to go to the bathroom, the smart lamp automatically illuminates the entire room. This helps older adults orientate themselves better and thus avoid tripping or bumping into an obstacle. Caregivers can also use Nobi to analyse the causes of falls so that they can be prevented even better.
High design standards
Nobi's design also sets new standards and has received two gold awards in the "Consumer" and "Business Innovation" categories of the renowned "Henry van de Velde Awards" as well as the German Design Award 2022. "Product design and user-friendliness are often neglected when developing technical solutions in medical fields. We are convinced that we can achieve far greater acceptance among customers with an appealing, stylish design and high user-friendliness," says Roeland Pelgrims. "Because ugly is not mandatory" is the company's whimsical slogan at MEDICA 2022.
Vera Led is the new person in charge of German-speaking Europe

Nobi will present its solution for the first time in Germany at the MEDICA trade fair from 14 to 17 November 2022 in Düsseldorf in Hall 12, Stand C19. The Belgian company is at the same time underpinning its ambitions in the region with the appointment of Vera Led as the new "Head of DACH". She comes from UNiQUARE, an IT company specialising in the financial industry, where she was most recently CEO. The Austrian manager will build up the sales organisation by working closely with local sales partners. .
"I greatly look forward to putting my business and technology expertise at the service of the generation that made our current prosperity possible. I would like to assume social responsibility and help ensure that older adults and those in need of care can also live in a beautiful atmosphere," says Vera Led about joining Nobi.
