Age tech enters UK’s next generation ‘Integrated Retirement Communities’

Burnham Waters welcomes Nobi's smart lamps for fall detection & prevention

UK, Burnham-on-Crouch, 1st February - Nobi, a European provider of innovative technologies in elderly care, is rolling out its new AI-powered lamps in one of UK's 'next generation' integrated retirement communities Burnham Waters. Nobi will boost the safety of residents by preventing and detecting falls, and support care providers allowing them to focus on their core tasks.

All residents will have the option for each room of their property to be fitted with Nobi’s innovative, AI-powered smart lamp, which uses artificial intelligence to detect falls, before immediately asking the resident if they are okay. In the event of no response or a call for help, the lamp alerts caregivers or family members who can come quickly and provide support.

Nobi’s lamp will also help to prevent falls by shining a soft light that gently illuminates the room when they sit upright in bed. If the resident gets out of bed, the whole room is illuminated, ensuring the resident’s safety as they walk.

Roeland Pelgrims, Nobi’s CEO and co-founder, says: “We’re delighted to play a part in Burnham Waters and support the safety and wellbeing of residents. Our technology gives families peace of mind that their loved one’s risk of falling is minimized and that if they do fall, the right people will be there to support them quickly."
As the building work for Burnham Waters continues, we’re excited to see Nobi’s technology rolled out at such a prestigious development to help residents live a happy and safe retirement.”
Ian Holloway, Burnham Waters’ Project Director, says:“Our aim is for all residents to be able to live their lives without the need for stress or worry about what the future might bring. Our care providers at Burnham Waters are there to give everyone the security and peace of mind they’re looking for.”

Feeling for design

Burnham Waters is an Integrated Retirement Community where style and beauty are key. The Nobi smart lamp has been carefully designed to fit in every interior. It is unobtrusive, with no wearable accessories or charging required; only a Wi-Fi connection. This state-of-the-art technology will be supported by Burnham Waters’ fibre network, which covers the entire development and provides each resident with unlimited data.

Taking care of care providers

Healthcare systems in the UK are currently suffering from an acute shortage of healthcare personnel.

Speaking on this, Ian Holloway continues: “Through the implementation of Nobi, Burnham Waters is able to support care workers by allowing them to focus on their core tasks, confident in the knowledge that the smart lamp is watching over residents, and they will be alerted in the event of a fall.”

The lamp also takes repetitive administrative tasks off caregivers’ hands, freeing up time for essential duties to be carried out efficiently. Nobi can, for example, be integrated with devices like smart scales and blood pressure monitors to automatically log health measurements and other important data. Eventually it will help to predict when things might go wrong so that preventative action can be taken.

Nobi was launched in the UK and Ireland in November 2022 and received its international launch at CES in Las Vegas this January.
